Through a partnership with the MORE Foundation Group (short for Modular Organic Regenerative Environments), Movin’ Shoes actively collects gently used athletic shoes to give them a second life in Africa to fight poverty, hunger, and global warming.
How does this work? The shoes are sold in major metro areas to vendors who in turn create jobs and help improve the quality of life in cities. The vast majority of Africans cannot afford new shoes. The proceeds from the sale of the shoes provides training and tools to the poorest rural farmers. In addition to funding several life-changing efforts, collecting used shoes and selling them to locals in Ghana provides additional environmental benefits by keeping them out of landfills.
With every 600 pair of shoes donated, MORE is able to fund hands-on sustainable agriculture training for a family in Ghana for one year. After MORE training is complete the family receives the tools, seeds, trees, and livestock to increase productivity as much as 1000%. In addition, MORE also provides free medical assistance for the families protecting them from Malaria and other African infectious disease.
So please, if you have a gently used pair of athletic shoes sitting in your closet, consider bringing them in to our store to be donated!
