SAN FRANCISCO, CA — December 12, 2015 — The Madison-based running team laced up with some of the best club runners in the nation in San Francisco on Saturday. USA Track & Field’s (USATF) pinnacle club cross country race was held in Golden Gate Park this year, in the middle of downtown San Francisco. The race featured tough field that included professional runners and former Olympians, as well as uneven and muddy terrain.
The Movin’ Shoes’ men contended a 10 kilometer race against a total of 59 teams and 411 competitors from across the nation, taking 8th place overall. Tyler Mueller led the charge, finishing 18th with a time of 29:52. Teammate Josh Lund ran strong race with a time of 30:52. Austin Bauer and Cory Hayden finished third and fourth, with times of 31:23 and 31:41, followed by teammates Alex Brill and Tim Willcox.
The women’s rookie year at the national meet was met with a 31st place finish amongst a competitive field of 346 runners. UW-Madison’s Karlye Wolff finished first out of the ladies, with a time of 22:58 for the 6 kilometer race. Following close behind were teammates Taryn Shank and Haley Johnson with times of 23:10 and 23:12, respectively. Marie Peterson, Hildy Joseph, Katelynn Williams, Heather Stelljes, and Janie Winston all threw down and worked together for Movin’ Shoes’ first female team debut at Club Nationals.
The race team will rest up for just a few weeks during the holidays before they’re back in action in the new year. In January, the race team will host the Subzero Race Series with the Come Back In as an effort to keep the community active in the coldest months of winter in Wisconsin. In February, race team members Tyler Mueller and Brogan Austin will fly down to Los Angeles to compete in the Olympic Trials for the marathon.
Club Cross Country Nationals is an opportunity for USATF certified club teams across the country to compete amongst each other at the end of the cross country season. Club runners can be anyone from former division 1 athletes and professional runners as well as those who’ve recently taken up running as a hobby.
